Today we visit the Stenton
House Museum in northern Philadelphia. This was the home of
James Logan, Secretary to Pennsylvania founder William Penn. We
want to visit here because James Logan is in my wife's family
tree. We took Rt-896 north to Rt-340 east. We picked up Rt-10
north to I-76 east. Rt-10 was great motorcycling with more stunning
scenery and lots of smooth hills and twisties. The riding fun
for this day ended once we got into the slow and heavy traffic
on I-76 east. We spent a couple of hours visiting this colonial home by walking
and by guided tour. We wanted to stay longer but we had to start
our return trip so we could reach Virginia before hurricane Frances
arrived. The rest of the day was a bad ride. We took I-76 south
through central Philly picking up I-95 south to Wilmington DE.
We then picked up Rt-301/50 and took it south over the Lane
Memorial Bridge into Annapolis MD continuing past DC. Only
after DC did the ride get good again. We stayed in Waldorf MD
for the night. Despite a bad day riding, we had a great visit
at Stenton House, a good dinner in Waldorf at the Red
Hot & Blue BBQ restaurant and yet more red wine back at
our hotel.
