After enduring Philadelphia area traffic
we changed our minds and decided to visit the Amish
first on Friday and visit Stenton House on Saturday. We took I-76 west to Lancaster
where we picked up Rt-222 south, then Rt-30 east to Rt-896 south.
The ride that day was very nice, especially after getting off
I-76. Unfortunately we found this area to be a horribly tacky
tourist trap commercializing the Amish. If I were Amish I would
be offended. We didnt cater to any of that crap and instead
cruised through the beautiful countryside. We saw many real Amish
farms and found the Amish to be very friendly always with a smile
and a wave. Apparently the Amish like motorcyclists. We spent
the night at a hotel on Rt-896 just north of Strasburg.
That evening we ventured into Strasburg
and had a great dinner at a place called the Iron
Horse Inn restaurant. Another great day riding, good food and
more wine. I wish we had more time to cruise the beautiful countryside
here, but time is short so tomorrow we head back east.
